This month marked LoopdeLoop’s first birthday, and we celebrated in style with the theme of ONE and two glorious screenings! On top of our competitive screening at Loop we held a special screening at Federation Square to celebrate the best loops submitted over the past year. It was a very cold and wet Saturday afternoon but there was a solid turnout of loyal folks huddled together enjoying the show, and Fed Square are showing repeat screenings as part of their regular programming (visit their tv guide for times).
The ONE screening brought us back into the warm and comfy confines of Loop, with a fresh batch of loops and a crowd just itching to watch them. There were interesting takes on the theme from a microphone check to a wild west showdown, but in the end it came down to a choice between birthday cake and lost socks. It was put to an audience vote and perhaps thinking with their stomachs they chose cake over socks, giving us our first international winner in Art Grootfontein!
June’s theme is PLAY and has been sponsored by the good people at Wheelbarrow. They specialise in adapting children’s books into animated and narrated interactive experiences, and as such are requesting that we have kid a friendly loop month, so keep it clean or you’ll be on the naughty mat.
Before I sign off I’d like to say of thanks to everyone who’s gotten behind the project and supported us over the past year, from the animators who’ve been so generous with their talents, to the various theme sponsors we’ve had, the lovely people at both Loop and Fed Square for allowing us the use of their fantastic facilities to share independent animation, and to anyone who logs into the blog or attends the screenings. You guys are THE BEST PEOPLE EVER!
LoopdeLoop invades the heart of the city.
This theme had everything! Dancing, teasing, memory lapses, and cake!
Runner-Up Katie Alexander-O’Carroll socks it to ’em!
